Notes:
D2B was built as part of the 1984 ILL renewal programme, out of ‘spare’ money. Funding for D2B was not forseen in the original budget, because it was supposed that such a simple machine would not meet the high standards of sophistication usual at the ILL
Inexpensive commercial components were used, and little ILL dvelopment manpower was required; D2B was one of the first 2ieme souffle instruments to work, and has now given 15 years service.
D2B is probably the most cost-effective ILL instruments ever, but now the time has come for a modest further investment to produce a ‘super D2B’ which will be unique for at least the next decade.
