Operation of the 586 generator
- Only persons who are considered "authorized users" (i.e. those
who have viewed the X-ray safety video and have received personal instruction
from the Facility Directory (Dr. Paul Boyle) or from Professor James Martin
are considered "authorized users".
- Authorized users should have read and understood the contents of
Chapter 4 of the CAD4 Users Manual, especially sections A, B, C, E.
The Facility owns 2 copies of the Users' Manual. At least one is normally
located in the beige storage cabinet located at the back of the Facility
near the darkroom.
Procedure for turning on generator
- If not already turned on, the water used for cooling the generator
needs to be turned on.
- Depress the "MAINS ON" button, and wait at least one (1) minute to
allow the HV regulator tube to warm up and stabilize.
- Set the mA and kV selectors to minimum values if not already set to
those values.
- Depress the "HT ON" button, keep the button depressed until all
diagnostic LED's extinguish.
- Verify that the guages indicate thier set values and are stable.
- Select tube loading. For a Mo tube use 50kV and 20mA. Turn the
KV's up first with mA's following. Take about 30-60 seconds to turn
up each dial.
- Follow the procedure outlined in the Safety Plan marked as
Single Crystal Diffractometer Operating
Procedure.
