Responsibilities
- Responsible for the four-circle, three-axis, spectrometer
D10
- Project leader of the
Millennium Programme project,
VIVALDI,
the Very-Intense, Vertical-Axis, Laue DIffractometer,
to be installed on the thermal guide H22 in the spring of 2001
- Local contact for experiments in diffraction, structural crystallography and magnetism,
on single crystals, multilayers, and occasionally powder samples
- Scientific responsible for
data-treatment workstations in the Diffraction Group
- Local supervisor for
John Cowan (Durham) and
Javier Luzon (Zaragoza).
Research interests
- Diffraction Physics (thermal-diffuse scattering, extinction, multiple scattering,
magnetic scattering, phase determination)
- Single-Crystal Diffractometry (novel applications, position-sensitive detectors,
data-collection strategies, white-beam Laue techniques, data visualisation)
- Physical and Chemical Crystallography (anharmonicity, bonding-electron deformation,
phase transitions, twinning, incommensurate nuclear and magnetic structures,
quasicrystals)
